BLURRED PERCEPTIONS

Where photography meets painting – A collaboration between
Shona Perkins and Fee Dickson Reid.

Fee Dickson Reid - Dawn Chorus - 76 x 76 cm - oil on canvas.jpg

Shona Perkins is an acclaimed photographer who has shot to prominence over the last 5 years on the international ICM scene; Fee Dickson Reid is an award winning artist who creates large scale, atmospheric seascapes in oils.
For 18 months they have been collaborating through conversation, running creative retreats together, learning from each others skills and leaning in to each others vision. This exhibition is the first chance to see how their work blurs the line between photography and painting, between vision and reality, between muse and creator and teacher and student. It’s about two women using two different mediums to create a singular enchanting perception of the world, inspired by each other and the sea.

Taking place at Gallery Close in the heart of Edinburgh’s New Town gallery district in late November, for one week Shona and Fee will be there daily to talk through and demonstrate their work.

‘we share a sense of the beauty in small moments, a love of light and the sea, a dedication to being in the right place no matter what hour for those magical twilights where the world is at its most ephemeral.’ – Fee Dickson Reid.

"Using intentional camera movement allows me to translate how I imagine I would paint a scene, softening the edges, just like blending oils with a paintbrush. I have always been heavily influenced by contemporary art and abstract minimalism, meeting Fee simply reaffirmed this connection.'
– Shona Perkins
